What this cannot tell you

  • Anything new. Every answer is a figure another page of this site prints, in the same words, and each answer links to it. A build check fails if a page and the game ever disagree.
  • The future for certain. Answers after 2023 are the UN’s medium projection: its most likely path. Where the UN gives a range it is said; where it gives none, the answer says so.
  • Your score, anywhere else. Your best score for each round is kept on this device only, in your browser’s storage, and never sent. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.

Sources and method

Every answer is read, when the site is built, from the file its own page prints: the UN's population, city and migrant figures, UNHCR, the World Bank, Ember, NASA and NOAA, Epoch AI. A check fails the build if a page and the game ever say different things. Stars: for “of every 100” questions, within 3 of the answer is three stars, within 8 two, within 15 one (scaled for 236 and 1,000); years within 2, 7 and 15; ages within 2, 5 and 10.
